I mentioned in my last post (New Years Mani) that I tried my first Julep box. In that I got two polishes and a tube of the Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum for $3.99! In the past month or so, my nails have become parched. I have hang nails, chipped and splitting nails, and nails that break really easily. This has never been a problem for me, actually, I’ve always had pretty great nails but obviously something was changing. I credit part of my problem to using pure acetone to clean up around my nails for the past few months and not using a cuticle cream or oil. Pure acetone is known to cause dryness but I didn’t think to mess with it until it was WAY too late!
I’ve been on a quest to start repairing my nails & cuticles. This felt like the perfect time to try out Julep’s Mighty Serum.
Product Description From Julep
Kapow! Peptides – super-charged amino acids that build keratin (for your nails) and collagen (for your cuticles) – are our Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum’s secret weapon to transform dry and damaged cuticles almost overnight. Plus, get visibly stronger, smoother nails with fewer ridges and less splitting and brittleness in only 2-3 weeks.
Here are my thoughts on the packaging. First off – its a pen style applicator where you twist the bottom to click product into the brush. I have a love / hate relationship with this design whether its a lip gloss or cuticle oil! The second issue that I’ve noticed is its a super thin and clear serum. For the life of me, I cannot tell when I’ve clicked enough to get product into the brush until I see it gathering at the base of the brush. Last issue, when I apply it – its really thin and absorbs fast. I’m not sure if I’m applying enough or not so lately I’ve been doing it twice to make sure! (I’m sure that is extremely wasteful which is a whole other issue for me! 🙂 )
Now that I’ve ranted about the packaging, I’ll say that after 6 days of applying it nearly twice a day, I’ve noticed some improvements. (I do have to also say that I’ve been loading up on hand lotions a lot in the past few weeks so it might not be the serum alone making a difference.) My cuticles are far from normal but they are looking much better and not as dry as they were a few days ago. I’m also using a Julep nail treatment that I’ll review for you soon to let you know what I think of it.
Bottom Line: I like it. The packaging annoys me. However it seems to be working and I LOVE that it absorbs into the skin really fast. I hate using some oils that sit on top of the skin until you massage it in. When you purchase it – buy it at Sephora where its a little cheaper! If you are a Julep Maven, you do get free shipping BUT at Sephora, you can buy it in some stores, or order it online and combine it with other purchases to get free shipping after $50.
Have you tried this product? What’s your go to cuticle oil, cream, or serum if its not this? I’d love to try some other (and maybe cheaper) alternatives to this!
