Quick Tip ~ Crease-free Eye Shadow Tip { oily lids }

Hi Loves!  For as long as I can remember, I’ve had oily eyelids.  Weird right?! I have combo oil/dry skin but at the end of day my eye lids look like an oil slick some times!  Its crazy.  Here’s my tip for long lasting eye shadow and the proof is in the pictures!  (Also…one eye lid is always creased & oilier than the other which just baffles me!)

  1. Prime your Eyelids.  I’ve tried a few brands over the years but these are my favorites.
    • Victoria’s Secret – VS Pro Lasting FX Eye Shadow Primer $12
      • This is a great sheer primer that is super light and works well for simple days where you just want to wear a simple eye look with out creasing – it is also the primer I’m using for this post.
    • Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer $15
      • This is my hands down – holy grail – eye primer.  It is tinted and my eyelids have some discoloration so I feel like this sort of evens the playing field.  It is also kind of tacky and the perfect base for a dramatic or smokey eye.  It lasts and lasts and lasts for me.  *It is a heavier primer so…keep that in mind.*
  2. Cream Eye Shadow. You know I’m a drugstore girl at heart so I keep it simple, I like the Maybelline Eye Studio – Color Tattoo  it is my go to, but that’s because its inexpensive and I like how it works.  They are around $5-7 and last for quite a while, but can dry up so don’t go crazy buying a bunch of them if you won’t use them all the time! 🙂  I have 3 – all neutral colors (Inked in Pink, Bad to the Bronze, and Barely Branded) and they are super versatile, I reach for the pink & barely branded most, and use the bronze for darker eye looks.
  3. Apply Eye Shadow & Mascara.

Its a simple 3 step process to get my eye shadow lasting all day and night.  Some people can just use a cream shadow as a base but if I do that (example in creased pictures) it looks horrible after about 6-7 hours.  I have discovered this through trial & error and this is something that works well for me.

Thanks for stopping by Gracious Luck today!  Do you also have oily eye lids?  What’s your trick or are you still looking for the best solution?

  1. Great Post! This is exactly what I do already, but will be super helpful for those who haven’t figured this out on their own yet! I wish someone would have saved me all of that failed experimentation and creased shadow time lol I also own the same three color tattoo shades 😉

    • Thanks Nancy! They have some good products – the only annoying thing about VS is that they rotate thru products fast, I picked up a lip balm around Christmas and they’ve discontinued it already and it was really really good! 😦
