GL Gets Fit {weekly update #5}

plankHi Loves!  Plank Challenge is complete!  I had no idea how much of a challenge it would be by the end but I was able to do it on my knees and forearms.  I found that after 2 minutes I couldn’t hold a traditional plank and instead focused on my form.  I figure something is better than nothing and I wanted to see if I could do it.

Over time I noticed I could definitely feel my upper arms, shoulders, and chest muscles getting stronger.  While it was intense towards the end, it wasn’t unbearable.  I really liked how you built up your time over the period of 30 days so it was easier to keep progressing by adding on 20-30 seconds at a time. (One tiny drawback – I have yoga mat burns on my elbows! 🙂 )

I think I’ll continue a daily plank but maybe only a minute or two and work on doing the version in the picture instead of a modified one!  Its really amazing how much stronger I feel throughout my core since starting this challenge.  Since I work 8-15 hours a day on a computer between jobs and blogging, my shoulders and posture have always been a concern for me.  After working on plank exercises I feel like my posture is improving and my shoulders aren’t as rounded forward.

As I mentioned last week my weight isn’t really changing but I am seeing changes in my measurements.   I’ve lost a few pounds but its nothing that outstanding.   So instead of a pound count here are my numbers – (base measurements taken 6/26/14)

Inches Lost on 9/7/14

  • Bust  -.5 inch
  • Waist   -3.25 inches
  • Hips   -1.75 inches
  • Upper Arm -1.5 inches
  • Upper Theigh   -2 inches

I’m really surprised at how much I’m loosing in inches – its a great motivator to keep you going!  I’ve also noticed a few things fit a little better – and one shirt I wore last week was way too big in the neck line – so it either got stretched out, or those inches helped!  I’m also looking forward to a plank now- just to keep the momentum going! 🙂

As far as actual exercise – I’m still struggling to get back into a regular routine.  I prefer walking/aerobic style exercise and really love Leslie Sansone to keep me moving and sweating.  That is going to be my September goal – increasing actual exercise again.
