Old Factory Candles { Giveaway! }

20141105_183053
Disclosure: This opportunity is from BrandBacker and Old Factory Candles.  I was sent these for free and share my honest opinion of them with you!

First off – these candles are exclusively sold on Amazon.com  These candles are also soy – which means they should burn cleaner and last longer.  Each set comes with 3 – 2oz candle jars.  There are several scent selections but the one I chose was Fall Harvest.  I love burning candles this time of year and really like fall scents that are like leaves, apples, cinnamon, etc.  This set includes one each of – Autumn Leaves, Cranberry, and Pumpkin Spice.  Each 2 oz candle is supposed to burn 20 hours.  This set costs $25 and shipping is around $7.

While I’m horrible at explaining scents, I’ll give you a brief impression of each one.
-Autumn Leaves – this is similar to other “leaves” types of scents but to me seems more cleaner and not as strong as others.  The scent is light and there but not over powering.  This would be a nice candle for someone who likes a nice and light scent.  A friend was over couldn’t even smell it, but I could right away.

-Cranberry-This is my favorite of the set.  Its warm and spicey like cranberries with cinnamon and clove or something similar that just reminds me of a warm and comfortable home scent.  Its not really a food smell but if you like apple pie type of scents its along those lines but just a little different with a cranberry twist.

-Pumpkin Spice – This one reminds me of a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting!  I’m not big into “foodie” scents but this one is nice.  However,  I just don’t get into food/baked goods kind of scents in candles.  I know a lot of people do though and this is a nice smell.

I read a couple reviews on Amazon indicating people liked burning all three together.  I tried this and it was okay but the frugal side of me would rather burn each one separately!  I did notice that the pumpkin spice seemed to overpower the others and that is the scent only I caught after they’d all been burning for about half an hour.

Next I tried burning the autumn on its own since its also the weakest scent to see how it would do.  I could smell it just faintly in the air and picked up a note of pine or something similar as it was burning.

My thoughts –

-They’re on the more expensive side of candles that I would purchase.  However – you know I’m “frugal” and its consider a splurge once or twice a year that I buy Bath & Body Works candles when they are on their 2 for $20 sale otherwise they are $22 each.  I do feel like when you spend more on a candle – for the most part – they are better quality and have a better scent throw. (How much you can smell the candle when its burning.)  I also feel like for $25.00 the candles should be a little bigger.  Right now each 2oz candle is around $10 with shipping.  My 3-wick bath and body candles are 14.5 oz and $10 on sale.

-They burn super clean and even.  This was a huge bonus for me.  I have been burning a cheaper candle from Kohls and its very sooty especially when I blow it out.  When I blew these out there was little smoke and no soot.  Plus – unlike some candles – you couldn’t smell smoke after you put it out.

-They come in super cute packaging.  As a bonus from the company – I opted to try Amazon’s gift wrap service when I picked my set out.  I was surprised it appeared to actually be wrapped in nice, heavy, navy blue paper.  It also had a gold ribbon around it.  (I’ve never had something gift wrapped by a company – I like wrapping my own things so maybe most companies are like this but I was still pleasantly surprised!)

-The containers also also cute little jars with lids that screw on.  You know me – I’m already thinking of ways to re-use these after I burn the candles!  Plus the wax in each is white so it can easily blend it with any decor.

Bottom Line – These are nice.  They smell good – but at the end of the day – if I’m spending that much on a candle they need to be bigger. I would purchase these if I had a gift card or something and wanted to splurge.  I also think if this company expanded and sold single scents in larger containers I’d consider buying some.

  1. I am a candle freak. Seriously, just as my husband! And I’m with you on the fact that I only splurge on the B&BW candles when they are on sale! I’ll have to keep an eye out for these! 🙂

  2. I always prefer soy candles – I hear you about the sticker shock. I now by Voluspa because I’m hooked on a few of their scents but oh man are they pricey!

  3. I’m super cheap, too, so I expect a pretty decently sized candle for $25! I would like to try the pumpkin spice one–I’m not a huge food candle person either, but from the way you described it, I might like that one! 🙂

  4. Great write up despite the fact you said you could describe scents 🙂 I think I would like the spa day and man cave (I like those kind of scents over very flowery ones).

  5. These are awesome. They have a really nice look that I like, kind of that vintage feel. I usually spend about $20 on a candle because I find that I like the smells better and they do last longer. Thanks for sharing.

  6. I really love candles my favorites at yankee candle. I am a frugal like you too and only by yankee candles during their semi annual sales..I hate though when I blow them out and they smell like smoke 😦 Thanks for sharing i’m going to check them out!

  7. The High as a Kite candle is hilarious! Not my cup of tea, since i’m not a fan of the way cannabis smells, but I do think it’s funny. I feel like the people at Fortune Cookie Soap would appreciate it. 50 Shades is a funny candle, too! They really put a lot of thought into naming their candles and what scents to use!

  8. It’s hard to choose, but I think the Spa Day set sounds best to me. The fragrances sound like they would give my home a clean, fresh scent.
