GL Gets Fit #122 {planks}

"If I could do it before, I can do it again." - Josh Altman on the School of Greatness: Happy December Loves!

Can you believe Christmas is in a couple weeks?  I’m still shopping but I’m getting closer to being done.  How about you?

Lets get down to the elephant in the post.  Planks.  I have a love / hate relationship with planks.  They are a wonderful test of core strength.  I could easily hold one for a minute and a half a few months ago and today… its a bit rougher.  I should also say that I do planks on my forearms and have the carpet burned elbows to prove it!  I feel like I really target my arms and shoulders in this position.  Some people have their arms extended, others have their knees down.  If you want to dabble in planks find the one that works best for you without putting too much stress on weak points in your body.

Instead of jumping into yoga every day in December, I’m picking up a planking challenge that I did over a year ago.  I’m sitting at holding it for 40 seconds and while I shake – I haven’t given up yet.  Each day a few more seconds are added on and I thought this would be a nice way to ease back into getting moving again.

For reference I’ll put a picture of my preferred style below with a couple tips to help you master it.

By the end of my challenge – I’ll be holding it for a couple minutes and while it looks super easy – its not.  At least not for me.  If you can hold it for several minutes… good for you! 🙂

Lastly before I go.  I gained half a pound.  I’m still 3lbs less than I was 2 weeks ago so its ok.  Plus I indulged on a couple delicious meals this past week.  Have a wonderful and warm week friends!
