TBT ~ A GL Throwback to last June – Recycling candle jars!

I realized not too long ago that I crossed the 1 year mark since I reformatted my blog and joined the realm of beauty blogging on a somewhat regular basis! 🙂  I appreciate each and every one of my readers and the amazing friends I’ve made in the past year.   ((HUGS)) Continue reading

Frugal Friday ~ Recycle and Save $$$$!!!

This week’s post is all about recycling.  I’m ashamed to say that in the past I didn’t recycle.  I grew up recycling aluminum cans but that is it.  Now I sort out cardboard, plastic, glass, paper, ect.  Here are a few benefits I’ve realized.

  1. The environment …duh! 🙂  I don’t like seeing trash filling landfills, especially if it can be re-used in something else.  Why not keep reusing items until they can’t be used any more!
  2. I use reusable shopping bags a lot.  You can get bigger ones, smaller ones, and my personal favorite that is made from heavy plastic and insulated (ideal when grocery shopping!).  I also have a pretty big one that hooks on your shopping cart so you can fill it as you shop and just have the cashier put items back in it. Brilliant btw!! 🙂  Also my local grocery store gives me a small discount for bringing in my own bag (.05 per transaction) and some stores randomly offer additional discounts if you shop in their store – with their bag.
  3. I save a lot of money on trash bags!  In the past my roommate and I put everything in trash bags – many of those items I now recycle.  I bet we’d go through 2-3 kitchen sized bags a week.  Now we have cut back to one bag for about a week and a half.  Its amazing at how much our usage has changed by simply recycling!  The most notable is that my roommate drinks a lot of soda that he buys in 20 oz bottles.  A few those will fill up a trash can pretty fast!
  4. Recylebank!  Have you heard of this awesome website?!  You participate in little activities, mainly watch small videos or read about recycling every day items.  For each action you earn points.  You can cash in points for coupons, discount codes on websites, or my personal favorite – magazines!  I LOVE to read – but I haven’t paid for a magazine subscription in the past four years.  And I subscribe to about 6-8 magazines…which I then recycle when I’m done reading them!  There is something about flipping though a magazine that I love more than reading on my BN Nook Color.

I realize that a box of garbage bags is pretty inexpensive in the grand scheme of things, and saving a couple cents here an there by using a re-usable shopping bag might not seem like much but its all a step in the right direction.   The biggest perk for me in recycling is seeing 1)how much I can accumulate in a week and 2)not being wasteful.

Do you recycle?  Why do you do it?

Thanks for stopping by Gracious Luck and have a fantastic Friday!

My Favorite Post ~ “The Good Life” Link-Up!

I didn’t realize until too late that we didn’t have a link up last week so I’m sharing my post from last week…for this week!  Have a great day & thanks for stopping by Gracious Luck!

Welcome to another day in the good life!  Since my blog is still pretty new I pulled a more recent post and a couple older ones from before the relaunching of my blog this spring! Hope you like what you find!

Favorite Post On Organization (Semi-Organized Idea! Upcycling Candle Jars!)

I attempt being organized – but I’m not Martha Stewart! I just tend to like things “in their place” wherever that may be!  I started accumulating this stock pile of candle jars but couldn’t decide what to do with them so I cleaned them out and waited for my a-ah! moment.  One night I decided I was tired of stuff strung out all over my desk – so I started with putting binder clips in one jar from Bath & Body Works (BBW), and then my paperclips fit perfectly in a mini-candle jar that was also from BBW.  It has since grown into helping me organize my bathroom closet and medicine cabinet!  Click the link above to read the full post.

Favorite Posts – Reviews – ps.. I’m a bzzagent!

It’s probably no secret by now that I LOVE makeup!  I am also a bzzagent (see last paragraph if you want to become one) which means companies send me products to try; I just use them and share my thoughts with friends, family, or anyone willing to listen or read my blog!

One of my most favorites was:  Covergirl Blast Flipsticks Review  (Click link to read full review!)  These were fun and great conversation starters when I’d wear them but since the review early this year – I’ve never worn Minx (I’m way to pale for that!) and I’ve given Stunner to a friend who can rock a bright red/orange lip a lot better than me. I did keep Vixen and randomly use it!

One other review that I had a lot of fun putting together was: BATTLE of the RAZORS! (Click link to read full review!)

I was sent the Schick Hydro Razor and had my holy grail Gillette Venus Razor so I put them head to head for a true test.  If you are looking for a new razor – I like them both but lean more towards Schick because to me it lasts longer and I get a better shave but if you want to read all the details click the link above!

As far as being a bzzagent goes – I’ve gotten to try out everything from cosmetics to cat food for my kitty!  Its pretty simple if you are interested go to http://www.bzzagent.com and sign up.  I’ve had some pretty cool products given to me like a Phillips epilator that was a $100 value but those types of scenarios are pretty few and far between.   Usually its smaller scale products but it’s still fun and you get either samples or coupons to share with others and sometimes you get both.

Thanks for stopping by Gracious Luck!  Have a wonderful day!
