No Spendtember is Back!!

Grant Cardone QuotesGrant Cardone Quotes

It’s time for a no-buy month.  First of all, my spending in August got a bit crazy with birthday coupons and discounts.

In September, it’s time to reel it in.  I do have a girls day planned, but that should cost less than $30 and I’ll set the money aside before September starts.

Frugal Friday – No Buy June!

Hey Everyone!  It’s been a while since I’ve done a Frugal Friday.  I’ve determined starting this week – the remainder of June is a NO BUY. I had to buy a shower gift on Monday otherwise it would have started sooner!

I need to get things back on track for some summer expenses.  As a reminder – no buy months only allow for me to spend money on gas and groceries.  Nothing else. Continue reading

Frugal Friday ~ Introducing NBN {No Buy November!}

Its time to take on another no buy month!  I really like these and its time, I have been shopping with coupons and discounts but have been making silly purchases that aren’t necessary.  Here  my friends are the rules if you’d like to join the party.

  1. No Buy November lasts until November 28.  I’m not going to lie, I like a good deal like everyone else and I will be checking out the post-Thanksgiving Day Sales.  I don’t go out to stores because I hate crazy crowds but I’ll be hanging out on my computer randomly over the holiday searching for cool gifts at fantastic prices!
  2. Allowed to buy: Food & Gas. Food because we have to survive, can gas because we have to be able to drive to work!  I’m not lucky enough to have public transportation otherwise I might try it!
  3. Post with updates.  No buy’s are by far the most challenging task I’ve ever faced.  Its much harder than I ever imagined it would be.  It’s so easy to read the daily sales emails from stores and feel compelled to shop.  What’s harder is not hitting the “buy” button!  My trick has been to avoid temptation as much as possible.  For example…I just delete the emails instead of even opening them.
  4. Holiday Parties are exempt.  I know its time for the standard work, friends, and family holiday gatherings.  If you have Christmas in November, then this is okay to “shop” as long as you try to keep spending under control!
  5. Have fun.  Instead of shopping online, I’ve picked up on more freelance work that keeps me “online” but I’m working and making money instead of spending it.  Instead of shopping with the girls, go out for a drink, coffee, or desert at a fun restaurant.  You might pay a little more than normal for the piece of chocolate cake or a latte but in the end it will more than likely be less than you’d spend shopping at the mall!

I hope you have a wonderful November and if you want to join me on the journey let me know!  We can link up our posts and keep each other going!

Thank you for stopping by Gracious Luck and have a fantastic weekend!  🙂

Frugal Friday – NO BUY JULY!

This is my first post in Frugal Friday – this post will occur on Fridays and be me sharing various frugal ideas that I have!  Its a tough economy and it seems like everyone I know is working at least two jobs or saving for something or paying off student loans (thanks grad school! lol) but we are all watching our money a little closer than we did before.

*This is by far my most “personal” post ever so…here it goes!*

It’s no secret to my friends and family that I love a good deal.  As a matter of fact I follow various money saving bloggers and vloggers who share with their readers coupon match ups and links for super cheap or free products from stores.  My favorite might be matching a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon (target is the one I use this for the most) and get something crazy cheap or in some cases they pay me the coupon overage and I actually make a few cents on the transaction!

This month I tried something I’ve heard others do but it is so radical to me that honestly, I didn’t know if I could do it!  And now I’m over half way thru my first ever NO BUY month!  There are two exceptions to my rule – I can buy groceries and gas for my car.  I can “shop” all I want but I cannot buy anything for myself that does not fall into the two categories I mentioned.   I should point out to you a couple things that may aide in my ability to do this 1) I’m single and 2) no kids.  If I had a family I think this could be harder for me but maybe not?!  Mom-Friends do think it would be a challenge?  My post is just based on personal experience.

My hardest challenge by far is walking into my favorite stores like JC Penneys or Kohls or Target and not buying makeup, jewelry, or clothes.   Some might say – just avoid the stores – and for the most part I have.  However, I’m also an avid online shopper and emails suck me in so I knew I couldn’t “avoid” shopping.  My method was to allow myself to “LOOK” and I might put things into a cart but  never hit buy.  To be honest – it was hard not to click buy but I reminded myself that its “no buy July” and I can get by with the tons of clothes and jewelry that I already own!

I’ll write a follow up in a couple weeks letting you know what I’ve learned from this experience and share my thoughts.

Have you ever done something like this?  Any ideas you’d like to share on your own frugality or what your favorite money saving tip is?

Thanks for stopping by Gracious Luck and have a wonderful day!
